BOX: going up the middle, there is curly maple, 2 plies of padauk veneer, yellowheart, 2 plies of padauk veneer, 2 layers of thick birch veneer, panga panga, redheart. At the outside, there is, going upward from the bottom corners, wenge, 2 layers of thick birch veneer, wenge, 2 layers of thick birch veneer, wenge, 2 layers of thick birch veneer, bocote, 2 layers of ebony veneer, padauk. The right and left sides are Honduras rosewood. Under the BOX there is a layer of thick white oak veneer. There was a layer of thick birch veneer below this but now that layer remains only above the base.
flaws/issues: The Honduras rosewood at the right side of the BOX has a very small glue-line flaw where it joins the Honduras mahogany of view 4. The open pores of the wenge in view 5 are so pronounced that it makes the piece appear to have surface cracks, but that's not the case, nor is this a flaw.
comments: the chechem in view 1 and the oxhorn in view 6 are both nicely chatoyant, although it is muted on both by the use of the satin-finish polyurethane.
Lots of nice omega curves inside the rim of this one
