COMMENTS:
The yellowheart at the bottom is really gorgeous and is very chatoyant even though the flat finish mutes that somewhat. It has an ambrosia bug hole in it with a very small mild stain radiating from it left and right but this is character, not a flaw. Also, yellowheart is normally fairly bland as far as grain goes but this piece has a nice swirly grain (it was likely at or near a crotch). The bocote oval on the top outside rim stands out nicely because of the yellowheart behind it.
I ALWAYS POINT OUT ANYTHING THAT NEEDS TO BE COMMENTED ON. THESE ARE (UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED) THINGS THAT DO NOT DETRACT FROM THE BEAUTY OF THE BOWL, BUT I WANT TO BE SURE I GIVE A COMPLETE DESCRIPTION. SO ...
There are a couple of extremely minor rough spots where woods join. There is a tiny chip-out in the middle lower right in the upper right corner of the wenge. There is some very minor chip-out on the bottom edge of the base but it IS noticeable if you are examining the base up close. The only really significant issue is that there is an area of chip-out in the inside of the rim at the upper left where the edge of the wenge meets the cypress. and a sliver of zebrawood shows through. Because of all these issues, I've priced this one quite low.
