diameter: 9 1/2"
height: 2 1/2"
shipping weight: 2lb 4oz (when asking about shipping costs, please don't forget to give me your zip code)
finish: one coat of natural stain then two coats of polyurethane (with UV blocker) then 8 thin coats of dewaxed shellac topped by 2 coats of clear flat enamel to take the shine off.
COMMENTS: I like the curves that the two pieces of curly maple make as they swoop down into the middle section and the way the dark pieces next to each of them makes a nifty swoop on the bottom
I ALWAYS POINT OUT ANYTHING THAT NEEDS TO BE COMMENTED ON. THESE ARE (UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED) THINGS THAT DO NOT DETRACT FROM THE BEAUTY OF THE BOWL, BUT I WANT TO BE SURE I GIVE A COMPLETE DESCRIPTION. SO ... The box elder in the middle left was beautiful in the blank (see pic below) but now that it's turned down it shows internal messiness that was unexpected, but that's the sort of thing that happens sometimes with wood, it being an organic material. The oak in the middle right has developed an internal crack that is quite visible AND a stress separation that is only lightly discernible by feel on the bottom where it meets the lacewood (it doesn't show up on the top at all).
Also there is a light stress separation that really is only noticeable when you run your finger across the top of the rim in the upper left (you don't see it but you can feel it). None of these are issues are very serious but there are too many of them so taken together they've caused me to reduce the price from $110 to $75.
