C259 --- $125.00

diameter: 8 1/2"
height: 2 1/2"
shipping weight: 2lb 8oz (when asking about shipping costs, please don't forget to give me your zip code)

finish: 10 thin coats of clear shellac. I usually finish the bowls with satin-finish spar polyurethane (with UV blocker) but only one small piece of wood in this bowl (the padauk in the lower left) really needs UV blocker and I thought this one would look nice with a hard shiny finish and I believe it does.

comments: The yellowheart at the bottom is highly chatoyant and the paela the upper right is gorgeous.

If you look at the bowl blank pic at the bottom of the page, you'll see that it shows a large chunk of panga panga (mistakenly labeled as "part" for partridgewood) dominating the bottom rim but that's not in the final bowl. Only twice in the hundreds of bowls I've turned have I had a piece fly off and this was one of those times. Apparently I over-clamped the piece and squeezed out so much of the glue that the joint was weak and the piece popped off when I started turning, so I re-sanded and glued on the pieces that are there now.

flaws/issues: the inner segments in the middle do not line up perfectly, but they are quite close. The yew in the upper left has a knot in it but that's not a flaw --- I chose that piece on purpose because of the grain curvature created by the knot; I like swirly wood grain.

VARIOUS VIEWS:

the bowl blank and the finished bowl --- note that the "part" (partridgewood) in the lower rim popped off during turning and was replaced by the yellowheart and monterillo that you see there now.
