finish: one coat of natural stain, 2 coats of low gloss polyurethane (with UV blocker) and 10 thin coats of shellac topped by two coats of clear flat enamel to take the shine off
COMMENTS: This bowl was designed around the use of some intensely green American tulip wood (aka yellow poplar) that I found in a lumber yard. This kind of mineral stain is common in that wood but what is not at all common is to find a really large swath of wood with a heavy and uniform green color --- the plank that these pieces came from was by far the largest such piece I have ever encountered, or even heard of, with heavy and uniform green throughout. The price of the bowl is higher than it would otherwise be because of the rarity of this green wood.
Also, I'm pleased with my choice of paela and osage orange as contrast color woods to go with the green and I think this bowl turned out quite well. The paela in particular is really beautiful
