finish: one coat of natural stain then 2 coats of high gloss spar polyurethane (with UV blocker) then 8 thin coats of shellac topped by two coats of clear flat enamel to take the shine off.
COMMENTS: Decades ago, when my son was quite young, I made a large number of laminated exotic wood blocks, 2" on each side", for him to play with. There were others in progress that I never finished and I found a box of these and picked out a few that I thought would be good in bowls. The "BOX" (so labeled in the image showing the woods for this bowl) is made from one such. I don't have a list of the woods. The thick red pieces are padauk and the 4 pieces with dots and stripes are zebrawood end grain and the purple wood next to them is purpleheart. The other's I'd just be guessing at.
The complicated lamination in the "BOX" give it a "busy" look that some folks will like and others will not. I like it, but then I'm prejudiced. :-)
