I do not often decide in advance on a particular overall arrangement of wood for my bowls, but occasionally I do and this "type" of bowl is one of those cases. Normally, I just add pieces as I go, but for this "style" I decided in advance that there would be a consistency to the pattern.

This "style" of bowl is one that has woods arranged all, or mostly all, in the form of the mash-up of dozens of 45-degree angled pieces, regardless of the shape into which the bowl is turned.

Because of the wild variation in placement of the pieces, it is particularly difficult to describe the types of each wood in the bowl, as I do for all other types of bowls.

Having decided to make these, I decided to do roughly 6 of them, so that I would have a variety of pieces to choose from when adding the next piece to each blank. Had I done only one or two, the choices would have been limited in a way that I feel would have been to the significant detriment of the wood pattern.

BUT ... once I had gotten about halfway through some of the blanks, I started regretting having ever decided to do these, and now that I am mostly through with creating all of the blanks and have turned several of the bowls, I have decided NEVER to do these again, as they are just WAY too complicated to make and while the end result is very nice, it does not, I feel, justify the very considerable extra labor.

The bowls of this type include:
